Coquecigrues', a fanciful motif printed using the woodblock technique at the Oberkampf manufactory in Jouy-en-Josas, circa 1792, was the starting point for a contemporary creation by artist Christian Astuguevieille. He delights in reworking the Toile de Jouy codes and combining them with his own pictorial language, which he calls 'imaginary writing'. The Toile de Jouy motif appears intermittently, like the historical geometric backgrounds of the famous manufactory, under the lines drawn with India ink and a brush that were created by the artist. The original document is conserved at the Toile de Jouy Museum in Jouy-en-Josas.
